Blue Zones Project Inspired Cooking Class - Dishes from Nicoya, Costa Rica

Blue Zones Project is a community health initiative introduced in the South Bay through Beach Cities Health District in 2010. In 2016, the Beach Cities (Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach & Redondo Beach) became a certified Blue Zones Community®. Through innovative partnerships with local organizations, restaurants and grocery stores like Lazy Acres Market in Hermosa Beach, Blue Zones Project empowers people to make healthier choices inspired by places around the world where people live to 100.

The Pier Room at Lazy Acres Market is officially open for cooking classes! Sign up for one cooking class or the whole series which is inspired by the blue zones regions of the world where people live to 100. Students will have access to their own burner and cooking station while they follow along with the chefs to create wholesome and healthy meals that not only taste good but are good for you.

Discover how eating whole foods, mostly plants in blue zones areas like Nicoya, contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Join us on a culinary journey where you will learn the art of ‘Pura Vida’ savoring wholesome ingredients with a vibrant expression. Experience the way centenarians live in Costa Rica and learn how to make fresh Hearts of Palm Ceviche with Chilero Hot Sauce, a wholesome Tender Bean, Potato and Onion Stew and a refreshing Lemonade with Chia Seeds. Come explore the magic of eating like centenarians in Nicoya, where an entire population is likely to reach a healthy age of 90, and discover the recipe for a long and healthy life.
