School Safety Supports Mental Health: Experiences of LGBTQ+ Students in our Public Schools

Join us for an informative evening focused on illuminating the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth in our local public schools. Your attendance is critical because safe and supportive school climates are important for all students, but they are particularly important for LGBTQ+ youth who face bullying, harassment, and assault while at school simply because of who they are. These experiences contribute to the higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality they face in comparison to their straight/cisgender peers.

With hate crimes on the rise, this event was conceived to encourage a dialogue around the needs for inclusion, representation and support for LGBTQ+ students, with the ultimate goal of improving the safety for all public-school students and staff.

Brought to you by: PLFAG Manhattan Beach/South Bay, Beach Cities Health District/allcove Beach Cities, in partnership with the South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate.
